  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • MSG – ¼ tsp
  • Garlic flakes – made from 2 cloves minced garlic

  • Steamed rice
  • Optional: chopped spring onions

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef
    • Mix sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cornstarch, and oil.
    • Marinate for at least 10 minutes (up to 1 hour for deeper flavor).
  2. Prepare garlic flakes
    • Heat a small pan over low heat with oil
    • Add minced garlic and cook slowly, stirring frequently, until golden brown and crisp.
    • Remove immediately and drain on paper towels.
  3. Cook the beef
    • Heat a pan over medium-high heat with garlic oil, sear beef quickly (1–2 minutes) until just browned but still tender.
    • Remove and keep warm.
  4. Build the creamy mushroom sauce
    • In the same pan, heat garlic oil + butter. Sauté mushrooms until lightly browned.
    • Add beef broth + heavy cream together and stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar.
    • Season with black pepper and MSG at this stage.
    • Simmer gently 3–5 minutes until sauce is creamy and slightly thickened.
  5. Combine & finish with garlic flakes
    • Return beef to the pan, tossing to coat in the creamy mushroom pepper sauce.
    • Stir in the garlic flakes at the end, just before serving, so they stay crunchy.
  6. Serve
    • Spoon over hot steamed or garlic fried rice.
    • Top with extra garlic flakes and spring onions if desired
